Welcoming Ukrainians Arriving At YVR

Members from the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and the Canadian Red Cross are stationed at the booth to greet new arrivals. The Red Cross and UCC are looking for volunteers who can help with interpreting as many of the arrivals do not speak English.

For more information about this from the Canadian Red Cross, please click on the “more” link below.

In partnership with the Government of Canada, the Red Cross is providing reception services for people displaced from Ukraine as they arrive at select airports in Canada. Services may include reception, registration, and translation services and information and referrals to additional supports.

We are looking for community members fluent in Ukrainian and English to join in our work as volunteer Interpreters at Vancouver airport. There are multiple shift times currently available. All training and orientation are provided. Detailed information is provided in the attached role description below. Please note that all volunteers must provide proof of vaccination, undergo an enhanced police record check and take a few basic training courses to ensure volunteers are prepared for the role.

If you feel that this may be of interest to members of your organization, I would be pleased to share information for you to provide to your network. I would also be pleased to answer any questions you may have.

Kind regards,

Phyllis Argue
