Language Support
You may be interested in becoming a volunteer for a program called ‘English 4 Refugees’. This is an online program for refugees (mostly Ukrainian) that are currently in Europe and the UK. There are two options for your consideration.
- Option 1: Volunteer to become a Conversation Partner for 1 to 2 hours per week. Volunteers will be partnered with a refugee participant and provide them the opportunity to practice their English.
- Option 2: Volunteer 3 hours/week to teach an 8-week intensive short course to help global refugees (mostly Ukrainian) with learning the basics of the English language to help them adjust as they settle into their new homes and countries. You must be a certified English language teacher (certifications like TESL, TEFL, TESOL, CELTA – teaching English as a second language and have experience teaching online to groups of 10 to 12 adults via Zoom.

The Richmond School District is looking for Ukrainian interpreters to provide language support for parent-teacher conferences. A 5-session training will be provided for qualified candidates. Interested candidates can contact Sarah Zhao via email at szhao@sd38.bc.ca OR phone her at 604-358-4921.
The Food Bank is having an influx of Displaced Ukrainians signing up for their services during their Saturday distributions (10:40 am to 2:00 pm) and there is a significant language barrier. The Food Bank is looking for two translators who are fluent in Ukrainian to assist newly arrived Ukrainians in accessing services.
