Culture Talks, Concerts & More

As opportunities arise, the Society hosts book launches, author talks, concerts and other educational and entertainment events for members and the general public.

Saturday Lunch Time Movies – this is an exciting new event in our library. General interest movies are shown in our comfy home theatre starting at 11:15 a.m. on the last Saturday of the month. We have enjoyed 3 movies so far: Royal Cousins at War, and Paris 1919 and Before Winter Comes, a 1969 semi-comedy set in a refugee camp in occupied Austria after World War II. A shrewd multi-lingual interpreter (Topol) who mediates between Russian and British military brass, enters into a friendly rivalry with British Major Giles Burnside (David Niven), who is in charge of assigning the displaced persons into either the American or Russian zones. All Society members and their friends are welcome.

Taras Shevchenko Ukrainian School – Learn how to read, write and speak Ukrainian, whether you’ve never seen the language before, have some background or speak fluently and want to brush up on your skills. Visit the Taras Shevchenko Ukrainian School website to find out more.
