Registration Now Open! Mriya Ukrainian Dance Ensemble children’s classes start this September

Classes will begin this September on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm at our Society hall at 5311 Francis Road in Richmond.

MRIYA Ukrainian Dance Culture and Education Society opens registration for children’s groups for the new season with classes offered in Richmond.

Participants do not just attend classes – they become part of a large dance family. Throughout the year, children perform at concerts, participate in festivals and competitions, represent Ukrainian culture on large stages and always return home with gold awards, cups and prizes. Each performance gives them not only stage experience, but also self-confidence, new friends and unforgettable emotions.

Classes are open to all, regardless of whether your child has already danced or just wants to take their first step – we will be happy to see them in our large MRIYA family.

Weekly Saturday Food Sales

Our Saturday Sales regularly offer perogies (varenyky), cabbage rolls (holubtsi), borscht and Ukrainian sausage. Saturday Sales are open every Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at 5311 Francis Road in Richmond.

Ukrainian Musical Theatre Classes for Children

We are excited to introduce our Children’s Ukrainian Musical Theatre classes! These classes focus on voice training, acting, plasticity, and creative development, and are conducted in both Ukrainian and English.

Class Highlights:
  • Bilingual Instruction: Classes are held in both Ukrainian and English.
  • Parent Viewing: Every two months, parents can attend and observe the classes.
  • Performances: Children will participate in performances for various holidays and special events.
Class Details:
  • Location: Ukrainian Community Society of Ivan Franko, 5311 Francis Road, Richmond.
  • Schedule: Twice a week – Thursday 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm AND Sunday from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. Different start times are available for different age groups.
  • Age Group: Classes are available for children aged 4 to 15.

Ukrainian Language Classes For Adults

We are pleased to offer Ukrainian language classes throughout the year. We are very fortunate to have Alla Dudka as our instructor. Alla has been offering classes for the past three years and we very much appreciate her expertise. We will offer two options:

Beginners Level 1: Designed for students who have some background but are at a beginner level. The student has knowledge of some Ukrainian vocabulary and understands some basic conversation. These classes will begin in the middle of January on Tuesday evenings for one hour via Zoom.

Advanced Beginner Level 2: This class is for students who have been studying Ukrainian for one or two years. Participants are comfortable holding basic conversations and continue to build confidence in grammar and conversational fluency. Emphasis is placed on mastering grammar structures and improving natural speaking skills. Classes are held on Tuesday evenings for 1 hour via Zoom.
